Synopsis:
This
undistinguished, amateur costume drama by director Andrew Marton was
produced in the United Arab Republic and tells the story of the
Central Asian Tartars invasion of Egypt in the 14th century. Under
their leader Timur, inheritor of the tradition that began with the
great Mongolian Khans (Genghiz Khan, Kubilai Khan), the Tartar hordes
invade the Middle East and take over areas as widespread as Persia,
Azerbaijan, Egypt, and Syria. A lowly woman from a harem (Lubna Aziz)
rises to lead the Egyptians against the invaders. ~ Eleanor Mannikka,

Synopsis:
A warrior sets out to save her kidnapped
son. Arnold Vosloo (from "The Mummy") and Rutger Hauer tried to revive
this movie but failed, probably due to the director. This movie had a
lot of new ideas going for it: a female main character (who was not
young and sexy), a single mom in a medieval film, characters who are
not simply good or bad... It even made good use of its low budget,
particularly by using some realisticly cold-blooded "medieval" type
horses rather than the cheap quarter horses miscast in such historical
films. The acting was on a MST3K level with the exception of Hauer and
Vosloo, but at least the scenery was nice and the unusual
circumstances of the story compensated until-- The ending ruined it
all. The director made an obvious change at the end contrary to the
way the screenplay built up the characters throughout the whole film.
It leaves a plot hole you can drive a MAC truck through. What can I
say? I guess the director figured Americans love happy endings, no
matter what loose ends it leaves.

- 13th century. The Bulgarian Emperor - Tsar Ioan Assen - is trying
through several marriages to enlarge the State and to support the

In the 13 c. Yoan Asen ruled Bulgaria. The king is good and wise
ruler, but very authoritative as well. He realizes that prolonged wars
have exhausted his people and decided to uphold peace by all means.
His solution is to marry several times in order to protect the
interests of the state. He even sends his only love to a monastery.

of his brother and his daughter as well. Obviously his power does not
allow him to grant happiness. |
