| The Desert Hawk
(1944) |
| Credits: Frank
Lackteen, Mona Maris,
Gilbert Roland, Director:
B. Reeves
“Breezy” Easton |
|
Synopsis:
This 15-chapter Columbia serial.
Kasim (Gilbert Roland), the Caliph of Abad, is kidnapped
by his evil identical twin, Hasson (also Roland). Kasim
escapes from his captors and returns to the capital, where
his brother now rules in his name. To regain the throne,
Kasim assumes the identity of The Desert Hawk, battling
Hasson’s evil henchman Fuad (Frank Lackteen) and romancing
Hasson's bride-to-be, Princess Azala (Mona Maris).
In a rare, and probably unintentional bit of casting, one
of the Arab villains really is of Middle Eastern
background. Lackteen, a Lebanese-American, was a familiar
villain in serials, particularly westerns. In fact, all
these actors drifted in from Columbia’s westerns,
including the California deserts, doubling for North
Africa or Arabia (wherever Abad is supposed to be). |
